Sudden death syndrome (SDS) is one of the most important fungal diseases affecting soybean production in Brazil. This disease is caused by slow-growing blue-colored strains of Fusarium solani f. sp. glycines. The fungus produces macroconidia on infected roots below the soil surface. Soybean plants with SDS have substantial amounts of root decay and discoloration of roots and crown.
