Session II. How difficult is it to detect, survey, and monitor P. ramorum in woody nursery stock and forest environments?
Phytophthora ramorum, the cause of sudden oak death, presents many challenges to scientists and managers attempting to detect, survey, and monitor the pathogen in nurseries and forest environments. The following papers address these challenges and present solutions from different perspectives. Matteo Garbelotto presents a variety of molecular diagnostic tools that have been developed to identify P. ramorum. Cheryl Blomquist and Tom Kubisiak discuss laboratory techniques for effective diagnosis of P. ramorum from field samples. Sabine Werres and Thomas Schroder address the challenges of detecting and monitoring the pathogen in nurseries and Ellen Michaels Goheen presents solutions to the difficult tasks of detecting, surveying, and monitoring P. ramorum in forest environments.
