Changes in Ribonucleic Acids during Uredospore Differentiation. L. Ramakrishnan, Boyce Thompson Institute, Yonkers, New York 10701; Richard C. Uredospores of the bean rust fungus (Uromyces phaseoli) contain the same complement of nucleic acids throughout germination and differentiation that is found in resting spores. The amount of template activity of the RNA increases during differentiation at the time of formation of the appressorium, then declines. Incorporation of uridine into template RNA occurred only during differentiation of the germ tube, which suggests that formation of the infection structures may depend on synthesis of messenger RNA.
