Singh(2), and W. A. Hodgson(3). (2)(3)Research Station, Canada Department of Agriculture, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Phytopathology 61:1006-1009. Accepted for publication 22 March 1971. DOI: 10.1094/Phyto-61-1006.

A virus inhibitor was isolated from the mycelium of Phytophthora infestans and characterized as a water-soluble β-(1 → 3) linked d-glucan with an average degree of polymerization of 23 glucose units with a single branching point. The yield of polysaccharide relative to the age of the fungus culture reached a maximum in 7 days. The activity of the inhibitor was not affected by the age of the culture.
