Respiration Pattern of Lemon Fruit Infected with Phytophthora citrophthora. Eliahou Cohen, Plant Pathologist, Volcani Institute of Agricultural Research, Bet Dagan, Israel; Mina Schiffmann-Nadel, Professor in Plant Pathology, Volcani Institute of Agricultural Research, Bet Dagan, Israel. Phytopathology 62:932-933. DOI: 10.1094/Phyto-62-932.

The respiratory rate was higher in lemon fruit infected with Phytophthora citrophthora than in uninfected fruit, reaching a maximum (51 to 69 mg CO2/kg per hr) 2 days after the initial appearance of decay lesions, and thereafter decreasing until the fruit was decayed completely. In uninfected fruit, the respiration was low (5 to 6 mg CO2/kg per hr) and constant.
