Oxalic acid was isolated from media that had supported growth of Cristulariella pyramidalis. Oxalic acid was produced at all stages of growth and in all media that supported growth. Application of either isolated or authentic oxalic acid to wounded bean leaves caused lesions similar to those observed in C. pyramidalis-infected plants.
