A cooperative effort by university, state, federal, and Renewable Resources Evaluation (RRE) personne provided the first objective estimates of damage to North Carolina forests since 1952. The advantages and limitations of using RRE data for estimates of disease losses are described, and recommendations are made for a regionwide cooperative program to improve disease loss assessments in the southeastern United States.
