The Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) will hold its national conference in Anaheim, California from September 26-29, 2002. The keynote address at the meeting will be made by Dr. Tomas R. Cech, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator.
A variety of opportunities for science teachers from K-12 through College are being offered. These activities include Graduate School Application and Advising Workshop, Conversations with Scientists, Professional Development Activities and Mentoring. Sessions designed for K-12 Educators and Teachers in Training include a SACNAS K12 Teacher Workshop which will focus on a variety of inquiry based styles. Topical sessions will engage participants in science, mathematics and engineering curricula, share techniques for meeting the needs of underrepresented minority students and a forum for teachers to work together throughout the conference.
