What:
The Potomac Division is the regional representation of the American Phytopathological Society.
Who:
Eligible members are those members of the APS who live in the geographical region of the Potomac Division which includes: Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Why:
1. Annual meeting. The Potomac Division holds a regional meeting every year. This provides both an intimate venue in which division members can present their research, and also provides them the opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and share information with colleagues in our area.
2. Student Travel Awards. This monetary award for $500 can be used to support travel to a national or international scientific meeting. An applicant may apply for the award to attend the Annual Meeting of the American Phytopathological Society, or another meeting that relates to the student's research project. Eligible applicants must currently be enrolled in a graduate program within the Potomac Division or be conducting their thesis research at a facility within the Division.
3. Graduate Student Paper Competition. All graduate students are eligible who 1) are actively involved in performing their thesis research or who have completed their thesis research after the previous year's annual division meeting AND 2) who performed their thesis research with an advisor who works at a Potomac Division member institution or collaborates with an employee of a Potomac Division member institution.
4. Distinguished Service Award. The Potomac Division is proud to honor members of the Division via this distinguished award. This recognition is given to members of the Division who have made outstanding contributions throughout her or his career to plant pathology, the Potomac Division, and its parent society.
