​​The Southern Division of The American Phytopathological Society held its 101st annual meeting February 26–29, 2024, in Columbia, SC, in conjunction with the Southern Plant Diagnostic Network and the North Central and Southern Advisory Committees. The meeting included student research competition sessions, poster and technical sessions, a workshop, two symposia, graduate student and division business meetings, an awards banquet, and a field trip.

​The 2024 meeting of The American Phytopathological Society Caribbean Division was held in Merida, Mexico, April 14–17, 2024. The meeting theme was Tropical Plant Pathology in a Connected World. The program included a student research seminars competition, poster session, and tour.

​​​It was not until the early 1950s that virus diseases of cereals, particularly wheat, were recognized as common or causing significant production problems. This article focuses on the first virus disease of wheat discovered, soilborne wheat mosaic, which was also the first virus disease demonstrated to be soilborne. Its role in shaping plant pathology is the rest of the story.

​University of Minnesota researchers have developed new processes to infect corn plants in the field with the corn tar spot pathogen, enabling scientists to conduct research in the field to better understand tar spot of corn. The research by José E. Solórzano et al. was recently accepted for publication in Plant Disease.
