A generous gift from Doug and Anne Jardine has created the Douglas and Anne Jardine Student Travel Fund. The endowment will foster the professional development of graduate students with significant interest in Extension and outreach by facilitating attendance at the APS Annual Meeting, APS Division meetings, or other professional meetings.
APS industry members contribute much to the breadth and depth of APS, adding diverse perspectives. Member contributions go well beyond generous donations to fund activities and research trials to include tools and innovations for farmers. In turn, APS provides industry members with opportunities to network, recruit, and collaborate on neutral ground.

APS Careers 101 focuses on the skills early-career professionals need to land a job, offering interactive career-development workshops. The newest workshop, Cover Letters 101, will be offered at division meetings beginning in spring 2024.
The APS Public Policy Board is committed to developing future leaders to engage in science policy that relates to agricultural science and APS. PPB interns hone their communication and leadership skills and build connections with scientists and administrators from academia, industry, and government. Apply for the PPB Early Career Internship by May 1, 2024.
The APS Public Policy Board is looking for APS members to volunteer to serve on PPB for a three-year term beginning August 2024. PPB provides scientific input on public policymaking processes; arranges meetings with government agency personnel and provides feedback to APS officers; and advocates for increased federal investments in APS scientific priorities.
The APS Outstanding Volunteer Award recognizes APS members for excellent service in furthering the mission of APS through their volunteer efforts. Nominations are open through May 1, 2024.

In the early 20th century, several plant diseases were credited to soilborne viruses, and it was theorized that nematodes potentially could be vectors. The discovery of nepoviruses is a critical event in the history of plant pathology because it uncovered the existence of a novel and previously unknown method for virus transmission. It also encouraged a greater interest in and justified the importance of both nematology and virology to agriculture worldwide.
