​Although devastatingly destructive, centuries of potato degeneration also had a number of positive impacts on potato production worldwide. It helped provide evidence for viruses being communicable and capable of causing disease; played a critical role in the birth of preplant seed testing for disease management in potatoes; and played a role in the creation of the scientific discipline called "virology."

​​Participants from diverse backgrounds gathered at the University of Parakou, Republic of Benin, for a workshop on plant disease management. The workshop focused on theoretical concepts and practical demonstrations. Innovative communication methods were explored to bridge gaps between stakeholders.​
