Webinar Summary

Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens is a quarantine plant pathogenic bacterial species and regulated agent in most countries including EU and North America. In this lecture, we will discuss the current classification, taxonomic history, and population genetics of bacterium. Clarification of taxonomic complexities among plant pathogenic Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens strains would pave the way of boosting quarantine rules and regulatory guidelines.

Ebrahim Osdaghi received his MSc and PhD in Plant Pathology from Tarbiat Modares University and Shiraz University in 2009 and 2017, respectively, in Iran. From 2017 to 2018, Osdaghi served as research associate at University of Florence - Italy and Research Institute for Development (IRD) – France. Since 2019, he has been collaborating with CABI Invasive Species Compendium, which resulted in the preparation of more than 30 datasheets for plant pathogenic bacteria. Osdaghi also served as the ambassador of the American Society for Microbiology to Iran between 2020 and 2023. Currently, he is an assistant professor in Department of Plant Protection at University of Tehran, Iran. Osdaghi's research program includes pathogenicity and population genetics of seed-borne bacterial plant pathogens e.g., Clavibacter spp., Curtobacterium spp. and Xanthomonas spp., as well as mushroom pathogenic bacteria.
