About the Task Force
The Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) Task Force was created to help foster engagement of APS membership and students at MSIs to increase representation in U.S. graduate programs and organizations that employ plant pathologists. Fueled by the generous John & Marie Sherwood Fund, the Sherwood Initiative and the MSI Task Force are working to:
-
Provide community and networking opportunities to faculty and students working in/studying life sciences related to plant pathology with a goal of increasing opportunities for educational and research collaboration and increasing the value of an individual’s membership through a sense of belonging and community.
-
Identify and communicate MSI institution needs and/or challenges pertaining to work-force development that APS can support or address to enhance inclusion in plant pathology.
-
Highlight MSI faculty and student accomplishments as well as opportunities within the various plant pathology-adjacent spaces to support APS’s mission.
-
Align needs of the MSI Community with resources available within APS.
