​The APS workshop for Accurate Identification of Vegetable Diseases and Improved Plant Health in Kazakhstan was held at the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University in Almaty in September 2024. Supported by the APS Office of International Programs (OIP), this 4-day workshop trained graduate students, faculty, and university specialists on identifying disease-causing fungi and bacteria.

​Gary Chastagner, professor and plant pathologist/Extension specialist at Washington State University, will retire in 2025 after more than 40 years spent researching diseases in "Christmas trees" and aiding the ornamental crops industries. To support future research and help the ornamental plant industries continue to thrive, the Dr. Gary Chastagner Endowed Chair Fund is being established.
