New APS PRESS Title is Culmination of 12 Years of Knowledge

St. Paul, Minn. (April, 2012)– APS PRESS announces the release of Illustrated Dictionary of Mycology, 2nd Edition, the culmination of knowledge collected by authors Miguel Ulloa and Richard T. Hanlin beginning in 2000, when they published the first edition, through 2012, with the release of this expanded and improved second edition.  It contains definitions and etymological derivations of nearly 5,000 mycology terms. This up-to-date compendium of mycological terms enables users to understand the technical terms used in the field of mycology and effectively communicate with colleagues.

One of the unique and exceptional features of this new edition is a complete list of 2,708 scientific names and color illustrations of all the fungi mentioned throughout the book. Having the illustrations in color will without a doubt enhance their usefulness to readers. Most of the photographs were taken by the authors themselves over the years while the others were provided by colleagues and fellow fungi studiers. The 672 color drawings in this book were created with great care and detail by author Miguel Ulloa.  Features like these illustrations have helped to nearly double the size of the first edition, and their visual impact aids in providing a deeper level of understanding of all things mycological.

This beautifully bound hardcover dictionary is a joy to use and will be helpful to plant scientists and students at all levels, as well as anyone else interested in the fascinating world of fungi. Each of the abundant illustrations and photographs are near appropriate terms that help readers fully understand the concepts. Each entry is accompanied by a reference to one or more fungi species related to that particular term, and a taxonomic outline of the taxa is provided to help those unfamiliar with the grouping of any particular genus. This substantial volume also includes several broader biological terms encountered in mycological literature to help give background to those less familiar with them.

This comprehensive dictionary is an excellent international resource for mycologists, plant pathologists, microbiologists, and all researchers, teachers, and students in biological fields where fungi are studied.
