APSnet features are dedicated to bringing plant health news and information to the public and APS members. The feature stories help demonstrate the value of plant pathology to society and increase media coverage of plant health issues. APSnet features are a means of outreach sponsored by the APS Office of Public Affairs and Education (OPAE) and the APS Office of Electronic Communications (OEC).
Launched in 1998, the APSnet feature series represents a diverse collection of stories on plant health issues including such hot topics as the world food crisis, new and emerging diseases, crop biosecurity, and the use of genetically modified plants in disease management (see the list of past features). In addition, APSnet features have dealt with issues in plant pathology that are important to human health such as the toxic indoor mold Stachybotrys, the use of Burkholderia cepacia as a biocontrol agent in agriculture, and the use of antibiotics for plant disease control. Each feature story contains valuable Internet links to supplemental information that, oftentimes, present opposing views on issues important to plant health management.
