My art presentation is a sculpture of a tree using gem stones and copper wire. The sculpture is a model of an apple tree infected with and showing symptoms of Erwinia amylovora (fire blight). The shepherd's crooks on the branches are diagnostic symptoms of this bacterial disease. I have been making and selling gem trees for three years, and I thought that while a healthy apple gem-tree appeals to the general public, an apple gem-tree infected with a well-known pathogen would appeal to the members of APS.
Currently, I am a master's student at the University of Delaware studying plant pathology and should be finishing up my degree in December. I am currently on the job hunt for an extension or applied research position.
