The APS Foundation is excited to announce the APS members who received awards from the APS Foundation in 2022.

​​​The Association of 1890 Research Directors (ARD) held its 20th Research Symposium in Atlanta, GA. APS OPRO members, including APS graduate student members, were on hand to represent APS, reaching out to students, answering questions about educational and career opportunities in plant pathology, and discussing APS activities and initiatives.

​Registration is now open for the 2022 National Soybean Nematode Conference, taking place December 14–16 in Savannah, GA. The meeting will explore the power of public–private partnerships, discover the value and impact of research, and foster the next generation of young professionals in the fight against nematodes.

The APS Outstanding Volunteer Award recognizes APS members for their excellent service in furthering the mission of APS through their volunteer efforts. Tell us who these individuals are so APS can show them our appreciation. The nomination deadline is June 30, 2022.​​

​The Office of International Programs (OIP) Global Experience Award submission deadline has been extended to June 20, 2022. The OIP Global Experience program is aimed at helping APS plant pathologists work with scientists and extension personnel in developing countries in training and outreach efforts. Apply today!

​Previous plant pathology historians have claimed that coffee rust was the direct reason that Britain became a tea-drinking nation. However, a paper published in 2015 states that this idea is not completely accurate. This discovery triggered a desire to investigate the rest of the story.

​​​Bacterial leaf streak is an ongoing threat to the U.S. wheat and barley supply. Rebecca Curland and Jonathan Jacobs, seeking to improve synergy in BLS research on a broad scale, coorganized the first Northern Midwest Regional Bacterial Leaf Streak Meeting held February 24–25, 2022.

​​Dahlias are a valuable crop for growers across the United States. Washington State University scientists, led by plant virologist Hanu Pappu, have partnered with the American Dahlia Society to study dahlia viruses and encourage better routine practices to stop the spread of viruses.

​The Sclerotinia sclerotiorum fungus causes white mold rots on more than 600 plant species. Weidong Chen and colleagues discovered how S. sclerotiorum uses protein SsPINE1 to bypass natural plant defenses and cause extensive rot in broad leaf plant species. The study provides insight into how the white mold rot fungus avoids plant defenses.​
