​​Climate, "the weather conditions prevailing in an area in general or over a long period of time," contributes greatly to the disease triangle, with many examples to be found in agronomic crop production. It seems that now, as always, it doesn't take much to convince folks of the "truth" about what they want to believe anyway. It snowed in Tifton, GA, on January 21. While beneficial for row crops, the snow and the ice also drove a deeper wedge between those who speak of the urgency of climate change and those who speak of the mythology.​

Natural rubber was first utilized by indigenous people in the rainforests of Brazil. Today, it is an important cash crop throughout tropical Asia and the Pacific, and Brazil only produces ~1% of the world's production. This disparity is due to the ability of rubber trees to be grown on a plantation scale in Southeast Asia but not in the Americas due to a rubber tree disease, South American leaf blight (SALB). The fascinating, complex history of natural rubber and SALB are the rest of the story.​
