​​The APS Annual Meeting, an event anticipated by many members, is just around the corner! The meeting is all about plant pathology, networking, and collaboration, but it also provides the opportunity to see new places and experience new things. I've never been to Denver or Colorado, so I reached out to two APS colleagues, Dr. Amy Charkowski and Dr. Jan Leach, for suggestions. They came up with an outstanding list.

​​APS OPSR hosted the Industry Tour in Northern California June 6–8, 2023. Fifteen students in plant pathology traveled to Sacramento, CA, to engage with industry professionals and learn how organizations in the private and not-for-profit sectors operate, as well as the career opportunities available to those with a plant pathology background.​

​The APS Pacific Division held its first in-person meeting since 2019 March 14-15, 2023, in Tucson, AZ. The meeting offered opportunities to learn about new research in the field, network, and socialize.​​

​To recognize the work of early-career scientists, each APS journal's editorial board reviewed all eligible papers published in 2022 and identified the winner and honorable mentions. Congratulations to the awardees!

​APS OPRO is seeking volunteers to serve on the OPRO board who would like to share their talents and/or gain experience in areas of information collection and synthesis and development of outreach materials. Successful candidates will serve a two-year term, beginning in September 2023. Applications must be received by Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

​This is the story of a serendipitous event that occurred in a dry-bean research field at the Panhandle Ag Station near Scottsbluff, NE, in 1958, and the search for dry-bean plants exhibiting resistance to common blight. Ongoing research revealed the possibility to transfer disease resistance to new hybrids and opened the door to the development of new blight-resistant cultivars/lines.

​The 2022 Raymond J. Tarleton Student Fellowship winner, Marilen Nampijja, describes her research and how the fellowship supported her study.

​A winner of the 2021 APS DeBary Outstanding Children's Science Book list, Astronauts Zoom! by Deborah Lee Rose, was launched to the International Space Station (ISS) in March 2023. T​he book was read aloud in orbit by JAXA astronaut Koichi Wakata.

​Mineral Nutrition and Plant Disease was the first book to successfully combine the plant science disciplines of nutrition and pathology. The success of the first edition inspired publication of an updated edition. ​Guest Editors Kitty Cardwell, Carrie Harmon, Poonam Sharma, and James Stack present the PhytoFrontiers Focus Issue "Diagnostic Assay Development and Validation: The Science of Getting It Right."
