We in APS have much to celebrate during Women's History Month. The many contributions of women to the study and practice of plant pathology and to APS give us reason for pride and appreciation. We should also recognize that the successes achieved come with a price—a price that each of us may pay in our own careers as well. A job, even the best job in the world, is important. Suppressive soil from Leesburg, FL, differs from other suppressive soils by being light textured with low pH and organic matter. Investigators concluded that suppressiveness in this soil was developed biologically and that its mechanism is a distinct form of induced resistance initiated by high populations of nonpathogenic Fusarium oxysporum isolates. This leads to another possible explanation for how the suppressive soil was developed—mycoparasitism.​
